Abstract

Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis has been used effectively in multiple areas for many years. With the release of the latest version of FMEA from AIAG, the tool is better suited for early-development trouble-shooting and risk mitigation, highlighting areas for investigation, optimization, and improvement - all before the design is finalized. Using DFMEA as a risk-identification and risk-mitigation tools is breathing new life into this workhorse technique, and is being embraced by both engineering and management as a viable tool to provide stronger, more robust designs that meet specs and customer wants/needs. This presentation will highlight how an engineering team used DFMEA to meet customer requirements and provide a viable ready-for-market design in record time.
